CAULIFLOWER-LEEK PUREE

Ingredients:

3 cup cauliflower, separated into florets
1 leek, white and green part, well washed, cut into ½ inch slices
1 teaspoon salt, divided
3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons heavy cream
⅛ teaspoon nutmeg (optional)




Directions:-

Cook cauliflower and leeks in lightly salted boiling water 15 minutes, until very tender. Drain; return veggies to pot and toss over high heat to thoroughly remove excess moisture.

Place half the vegetables in food processor with half the butter and cream. Process until smooth. Repeat with remaining vegetables, butter, and cream. 

Mix in nutmeg (optional); season to taste with salt and pepper.

20/10/2011 ~ Cik nolie dah 41tahun..hehe




Emmm...20/10/2011 hari tu genap la cik nolie 41tahun. Sekejap je ek dah setahun rasa cam baru jew post catatan cik nolie 40thn pada 20/10/2010 hehehe. 

Alhamdulillah Allah panjangkan lagi umur cik nolie dengan penuh keberkatan. Cuma pertengahan tahun 2011 ni banyak mencabar cik nolie dalam banyak perkara. Rumah tangga, keluarga dan rezeki.

Dugaan demi dugaan melanda cik nolie..walaupun kadang2 rasa tak tertanggung namun cik nolie kena terima dengan redha ..mungkin ada hikmah disebaliknya. Alhamdulilah ini suma memberi kekuatan pada cik nolie.

Tentang kerja pun banyak yang cik nolie dah berubah...jadi lebih fokus. Ini semua hasil teguran bos kecik cik nolie yg x serik2 dok tegur cik nolie bila terlupa atau buat silap. Maklum la bila kita banyak masalah peribadi..kita kadang2 jadi pelupa dan x fokus pada kerja...hehe.

Semakin menjelang akhir tahun ni terus terang cik nolie cakap..cik nolie rasa lebih tenang dan lebih fokus tuk mencari jalan menyelesaikan apa saja permasalahan yg dihadapi.

Tentang kesihatan, alhamudulillah sekarang x gemuk sangat cam dulu semenjak mengambil SD2. Sekarang dah boleh bersenam tanpa sakit sana sini. Cik nolie mmg menjaga pemakanan supaya x terjadi lagi kegemukan melampau. Sekarang ni tumpuan cik nolie nak menurunkan lagi 10kg..insyallah.

Mudah2an Allah merahmati cik nolie sekeluarga di dunia dan akhirat. Di beri kesihatan yg baik, murah rezeki dan mempermudahkan segala urusan dan perkerjaan..Aminnnnn.

LASAGNA


Ingredients:

2 medium Italian eggplant (1½ pounds)
1 pound ground beef chuck
1 cup spicy no sugar added tomato sauce
4 medium portabello mushroom caps (about 12 ounces), stems and gills removed
¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
⅛ teaspoon salt
⅛ teaspoon pepper
2 cups ricotta cheese
10 ounces frozen leaf spinach, thawed and squeezed dry
2 eggs, slightly beaten
¼ cup Parmesan cheese
1 pound mozzarella cheese, sliced

Directions:

Broiled eggplant stands in for lasagna noodles in this robust dish.

1. Trim eggplants, but leave peel on; slice lengthwise ¼-inch to ⅓-inch thick. Layer in a colander, salting each layer. Let stand in the sink or over a bowl for 15 minutes to drain bitter juices.

2. Meanwhile, in a heavy medium skillet over medium heat, cook beef, breaking it up with a wooden spoon until browned and beginning to crisp, about 6 minutes. Drain liquid from skillet and stir in tomato sauce. Remove from heat; set aside to cool.

3. Brush mushrooms lightly with olive oil; season with salt and pepper. Cook 4 minutes per side in a large skillet over medium heat until lightly browned. Cut into ½-inch slices; set aside.
4. Heat broiler. Pat eggplant dry. Brush olive oil on both sides. Broil 3 minutes per side until just beginning to char; set aside to cool slightly. Reduce oven temperature to 400°F.

5. In a food processor fitted with a metal blade, combine ricotta, spinach, eggs and Parmesan cheese. Pulse until blended. Add pepper.
6. Lightly oil a 13- by 9-inch glass baking dish. Arrange half the eggplant slices in an even layer, overlapping slightly. Top with half the mozzerella and all the mushrooms. Spoon on half the meat sauce, then spread all the ricotta mixture, in an even layer. Top with the remaining eggplant, followed by the remaining sauce and the mozzarella.
7. Bake about 20 minutes, until cheese is melted and sauce is bubbly. Let cool slightly before cutting and serving.

Grilled Chicken and Vegetables with Fresh Basil




Ingredients:

¼ cup shallots, roughly chopped
3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon chopped garlic
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
2 pounds of skinless chicken breast halves
1 red bell pepper, seeded and quartered (about 1½ cups)
1 medium zucchini, quartered lengthwise (about 1½ cups)
1 medium yellow squash, quartered lengthwise (about 1½ cups)
1 medium leek, root trimmed, halved lengthwise
¼ cup fresh basil, chiffonade
Directions:

1.      Mix shallots, oil, garlic, salt and pepper in a large re-sealable plastic bag. Add chicken, peppers, zucchini, squash and leek. Gently shake bag to coat chicken and vegetables, and marinate in refrigerator for 1 to 3 hours, turning occasionally.
2.      Prepare a medium-low grill. Place chicken on grill and cook until just cooked through, turning once, about 12 minutes. About 2 minutes into cooking process, add peppers and cook until tender, turning once, about 10 minutes.
3.      About 2 minutes after adding peppers, add zucchini, squash and leeks and cook until tender, turning once, about 8 minutes. Sprinkle with basil before serving.

SANDWICH AYAM DGN LADA PUTIH

Hari tu x tau nak masak apa. Tengok ada ayam. Cik nolie pun wat resepi hentam aje la...hehe. Senang jew resepi nih. Cik nolie buat sebagai inti sandwich...tapi nak makan gitu jew balut dgn sayur salad pun boleh.



Bahan-bahannya:-

3 keping dada ayam (dihiris nipis2, basuh dan tos)
sedikit serbuk lada putih
sedikit serbuk kunyit
garam secukup rasa
1 sudu besar minyak zaitun

Cara memasaknya:-

Perap ayam bersama serbuk lada putih, serbuk kunyit dan sedikit garam selama 1/2 jam.

Panaskan minyak atas kuali 'non stick'. Masukan ayam tadi dan goreng hingga kekuningan dan angkat.

Ambil roti. Letak daun salad. Letakkan isi ayam tadi dan tutup dgn sekeping roti lagi. Dah siap. Cik nolie makan gitu jew tanpa sos untuk rasa ayam yg lebih natural. Lagi pun sos cili x elok untuk diet..tinggi karbo dan tinggi gula..ngehh3.

AGAR-AGAR LUMUT/SANTAN PERASA SIRAP

Agar-agar lumut /santan ni mmg sedap dimakan lagi2 kalau sejuk. Silap2 x leh berhenti..hehe. Selalunya buat guna agar-agar kering tapi kali ni cik nolie cuba guna agar2 serbuk..lagi mudah membuatnya. Kebiasaannya orang buat perisa pandan/gula merah tapi kali ni cik nolie buat yg mudah punya..perisa sirap. Lagi satu cik nolie wat experimen guna kordial stevia dan extract stevia..NO sugar gitu.



Bahan-bahannya:-

1 bungkus serbuk agar2 pearl mermaid
2.5 liter air
1 cawan kordial sirap stevia
sedikit perwarna ros untuk warna yg lebih cantik
5 sudu kecil extract stevia (kalau nak guna gula letak lew dalam 500g gula biasa)
santan pekat dari 1biji kelapa (harga dalam RM2)
2 biji telur
sehelai daun pandan


Cara membuatnya:-

Masak air bersama serbuk agar2 dan daun pandan. Bila mendidih keluarkan daun pandan dan masukkan kordial, gula dan sedikit perwarna ros. Kacau hingga sebati.

Kemudian pukul telur hingga kembang sedikit dan masukkan kedalam santan. Kacau rata.

Selepas itu tuangkan kedalam periuk tadi dan kacau selalu hingga campuran telur dan santan cantik masaknya.

Sediakan loyang dan tuang adunan (mesti kacau untuk mendapatkan keserataan pada bahagian atasnya nanti).

Selepas itu sejukkan pada suhu bilik. Bila dah keras sejukkan dalam peti sejuk. Boleh la dihidangkan bila dah cukup sejuk.

MEE GORENG

Hari ni alhamdulillah selesai cik nolie berpuasa 6. Teringin pulak nak makan mee goreng. Bukan x nak beli tapi mee goreng kalau sejuk x sedap jadi baik masak sendiri kan..boleh makan panas2. Ni style mee goreng cik nolie...x letak kicap. Sesapa nak cuba sila la.



Bahan-bahannya:-

1 bungkus mee kuning jenama laksamana (basuh dan tos~pastikan masa nak masukan mee baru basuh)
15 ekor udang saiz sedang (buang kulit separuh jew)
3 ketul tahu goreng (potong dadu)
1 ketul tahu ikan (potong nipis)
1 bungkus bebola ikan (potong 2)
3 pokok sawi (bersihkan dan potong ikut suka)
Sedikit Taugeh

Sedikit ikan bilis (tumbuk)
3 ulas bawang putih (tumbuk)
2 ulas bawang merah (tumbuk)
3 sudu besar cili kisar
4 sudu besar tomato sos
1 sudu besar sos tiram
1 sudu kecil sos ikan
Sedikit minyak untuk menumis


Cara memasaknya:-

Panaskan minyak. Tumis bawang dan ikan bilis tumbuk hingga naik bau. Masukan cili kisar. Kacau hingga cili garing. Masukan udang, tahu ikan, bebola ikan, tahu goreng. Kacau rata.

Masukan tomato sos, sos tiram, sos tiram, sos ikan dan sawi. Kacau lagi. 

Akhir sekali masukan mee yg telah dibasuh & ditos. Taugeh, sedikit air dan garam secukup rasa.

Kacau rata dan boleh la diangkat.

KEK MENTEGA SEMPOI

Hari raya baru2 ni cik nolie wat kek mentega sempoi nih tuk family cik nolie sbb diorg mmg suka kek yg kosong camni. Resepi ni mmg dah lama cik nolie simpan dari zaman anak dara lagi. Mula2 dapat kat majalah..tapi biasa la resepi majalah ni kena cuba dan setelah di experimenkan terhasil la resepi yg sempoi ni..insyallah jadi kalau ikut cara2nya..hehe. Sapa2 yg nak cuba tu sila la..



Bahan-bahannya:-

250g mentega
180g gula castor
250g tepung naik sendiri
5 biji telur
1 penutup esen vanilla


Cara membuatnya:-

Pukul mentega dan gula hingga kembang. Masukan telur 1 persatu dan pukul hingga kembang (ingat: telur mesti masukkan satu dulu dan pukul hingga kembang baru masukan telur lagi sehingga habis).

Bila dah kembang, masukan esen vanila dan tepung sedikit demi sedikit. Masa ni gaul hingga adunan sebati. Peringatan: Jgn pukul kuat2. Masa ni kacau dgn senduk kayu jew.

Dah siap adunan. Panaskan oven pada suhu 180darjah celcius dan panaskan loyang yg telah disapu lebihan mentega tadi selama 2 minit. Keluarkan loyang dan masukan adunan tadi. Ratakan dan bakar hingga masak selama 35-40min. Nak tau masak ke tidak cucuk ngan garfu..kalau x melekat makna dah masak la..hehe.

RENDANG AYAM KERISIK

Hari ni cik nolie masak rendang ayam letak kerisik pulak. Kawan office order. Dia minta rendang yang ada kerisik. Cik nolie kalau wat rendang ayam jarang wat rendang kerisik ni..selalunya wat rendang padang jew..ringkas..hehe. Xpe la kawan punya psl dan dia mmg teringin sangat cik nolie watkan la..lagi pun dia kasi duit..hehe. Resepi ni cik nolie main agak2 jew..seb baik jadi..keh3. Kena la cepat2 post resepi takut lupa..hehe.



Bahan-bahannya:-

1 ekor ayam (potong 16)

Bahan A
15 ulas bawang merah
1 labu bawang putih
2 inci halia
2 inci lengkuas
3 batang serai
10 biji cili padi

Bahan B
2 sudu besar cili kisar
1/2 paket cili boh jenama Maz yg saiz kecil
1 bungkus santan pekat harga RM2
sedikit serbuk kunyit
4 sudu besar kerisik
1/2 sudu kecil gula
garam secukup rasa
3 helai daun limau purut (carik2 jew)
1 helai daun kunyit (carik2 jew)
1 keping asam keping
Sedikit minyak utk menumis

CAra memasaknya:-

Kisar semua bahan A.

Panas kan minyak dan tumis cili hingga garing. Kemudian masukan bahan A yg telah dikisar, gula dan serbuk kunyit.

Goreng hingga sedikit kering dan masukan pula ayam.

Biarkan ayam keluar air dan masak hingga kuah hampir kering. Boleh la masukan santan, kerisik, daun limau purut, garam, daun kunyit dan asam keping.

Kacau rata dan masak hingga naik minyak. Taraaa dah siap...senangkan.

SALAD TIMUN & EPAL HIJAU

Hari Ahad lepas cik nolie tgk2 dalam peti sejuk ada timun dan epal hijau. Emmm...teringin pulak nak wat salad buah. Resepi ni kawan cik nolie yg ajar. Kat dalam majalah masakan pun ada jugak tapi biasa diorg letak mcm2 buah. Cuma skrg ni cik nolie tgh diet so kena la letak lebih sayuran dari buah2an dan buah pun kena la guna yg rendah karbo cam epal hijau dan timun nih..hehe. Senang jew resepi ni yg penting mesti ada lobak merah dan kismis buat penyedap rasa.



Bahan-bahannya:-

1 biji timun saiz besar (belah empat/dua, buang biji dan potong ikut suka)
2 biji epal hijau (buang kulit & potong ikut suka)
1 biji lobak merah (buang kulit, basuh dan sagat halus)
3 sudu besar kismis saiz besar (jenama sunsweet pun sedap)
4 sudu besar mayonise biasa (jgn guna rendah lemak sbb tinggi karbo..hehe)


Cara membuatnya:-

Gaul mayonise dgn timun dan epal hingga sebati. Sagat lobak merah kedalam campuran tadi. Akhir sekali masukan kismis dan gaul rata. Simpan dalam peti sejuk dalam 1/2 jam dan boleh la dihidangkan. Masa hidang tu gaul lagi sekali utk memesrakan rasanya. Sedap dimakan bersama daun salad atau camtu jew.

Kalau suka letak buah boleh la letak apa2 buah pun...cuma buah byk kandungan gula dan tinggi karbo..chewah.

Resepi ni kalau nak tukar kentang pun boleh. Gantikan epal dengan 2 biji kentang rebus size besar yg dikupas kulit dan dipotong dadu. Boleh tambah celeri (hiris2). Cuma kalau bagi orang2 yg berdiet kentang tu byk karbo..x sesuai..hehe.

MEE SIAM (BERKUAH TAUCU)

Semalam tiba2 teringin lak cik nolie nak wat mee siam. Resepi ni mak mertua yg ajar. Tapi biasa la cik nolie ubah2 sikit2 ikut selera sendiri..hehe. Bahan-bahan pun mudah dicari dan senang dibuat. Sesiapa nak cuba tu sila la ye.




Bahan-bahannya:-

1 bungkus meehoon EKA (rendam hingga lembut, basuh dan toskan)
4 ketul tahu putih – potong kecil, gaul garam dan goring hingga garing
3 ulas bawang putih (tumbuk)
1 biji bawang besar saiz kecil (tumbuk)
10 ekor udang saiz besar (buang kulit)
5-6 sudu besar cili kisar (
1 kiub ikan bilis
1 sudu kecil sos ikan
½ mangkuk kecil kucai (potong dalam panjang 1in)
1 mangkuk kecil taugeh
Garam secukup rasa
Minyak untuk menumis

Cara memasaknya:-

Panaskan minyak. Tumis bawang hingga naik bau. Masukan cili kisar dan goreng hingga garing.

Kemudian masukan udang, kiub ikan bilis dan sos ikan. Kacau rata.

Masukan pula kucai dan tahu goreng tadi. Kacau lagi.

Akhir sekali masukan mee hoon dan garam secukup rasa. Bila meehoon agak lembut, masukan taugeh. Kacau rata dan boleh la diangkat bila mee hoon cukup masaknya.

Hiasan~tabur atas meehoon

Cili merah ~ hiris halus
daun sup ~ hiris halus
Telur dadar ~ hiris nipis2
Limau kasturi ~potong 2

Taburkan cili, daun sup, telur dan limau kasturi ni atas mee hoon semasa menghidang. Tuang kuah taucu bila nak makan. Cara buat kuah seperti dibawah.

Bahan-bahan untuk kuahnya:-

2 ulas bawang putih
1 biji bawang besar
1 sudu besar cili kisar
4 sudu besar taucu tamin
1 sudu kecil extract stevia/4 sudu besar gula
1 mangkuk air
2 sudu kecil asam jawa adabi
Sedikit minyak tuk menumis

Cara memasaknya:-

Panaskan minyak, tumis bawang, cili dan taucu hingga naik bau. Masukan air, gula dan asam jawa. Biarkan mendidih dan boleh la diangkat.

Tuang atas meehoon semasa makan.

KEK NASI 'PUNTEN'

Emmm..ari ni lagi 4 hari nak raya..alhamdulillah. Tiba2 teringat nak post resepi kek nasi atau punten. Resepi ni cik nolie belajar dari kawan 'org jawa'. Mula2 makan eh..sedapnya..terus minta resepi..hehe. Nak buat pun senang jew..lebih kurang cam nasi impit. Kata kawan cik nolie ada kuar resepi ni kat tv tapi cik nolie x perasan lak. Ni versi kawan cik nolie. Lawannya dengan sambal bilis cili padi becak2..sedap makan waktu sarapan pagi. Resepi nya seperti dibawah:-










Bahan-bahannya:-

1 cawan beras (dibasuh dan toskan)
3 cawan air (kalau nak lembut lagi/beras jenis kembang tambah 1 cawan lagi)
1/3 bahagian dari 1 biji kelapa parut (ambil putih saja)
garam secukup rasa


Cara membuatnya:-

Masukan beras, air dan sedikit garam dalam rice cooker dan masak hingga lembut.

Bila dah cukup lembut dan masak, masukan kelapa dan gunakan cawan plastik dan lenyek2 nasi dan kelapa tadi hingga hancur.

Kemudian masukan ke dalam bekas dan lapik atas nasi tadi dengan plastik dan tekan2 hingga mampat dan biarkan sejuk.

Masukan dalam peti sejuk kalau suka dan biar hingga esok pagi boleh la dihidangkan bersama sambal bilis cili padi...emmm..yum3.

PENGALAMAN KURUS BERSAMA SD2..SYIOKNYA



Cik nolie ni seperti yg semua org tau mmg dah gemuk sejak azali lagi.  Masa kawin dulu pun berat mmg 80 lebih tapi kira ok lagi la. Lepas tu mengandung anak yg pertama berat naik mendadak hingga 124kg..huhu beratnya. Lepas bersalin dan berpantang turun la sikit begitu la seterusnya hingga la sekarang. Pernah turun paling bawah pun 107kg masa jaga sabrina tengah sakit/operation jantung (5 tahun yg lepas)..hehe. Lepas tu naik balik dan maintain kat 116-118 jew berat cik nolie nih. Kadang-kadang cecah 120kg.

Memang cik nolie nak kuruskan badan sebab doktor dah arahkan cik nolie diet lepas cik nolie asyik sakit lutut bila naik tangga opis. Nafas pun semput je bila jalan banyak skit. Nak exercise pun jangan mimpi la sbb lutut mmg akan sakit..huhu. Yang paling teruk solat pun kena wat duduk kat bawah /duk kat kerusi sbb lutut  x boleh tahan turun naik.

Tahun ni tah macammana kak dzu aka akak laling pujuk suh cik nolie wat diet protin selama sebulan.  Mula2 mmg rasa cam x boleh jew..tapi cik nolie kuat kan semangat terutama bila tgk akak laling dah kurus..cik nolie kurang kan nasi dan ambil roti gandum jew. Mula2 mmg pedih perut tapi lepas seminggu dah ok. Lepas sebulan x sangka leh turun 2.5kg tapi rasa cam lambat la sangat.

Kemudian akak dzu saran amik SD2 tuk turunkan berat dgn lebih cepat tapi selamat. Tgk pada cara2 penggunaan mmg nampak menarik. TAmbahan pulak diet SD2 ni kena makan dan x boleh berlapar. Tu yg buat cik nolie teruja tuk cuba. Aduyai susah jugak nak kontrol makan nih..huhu..kuatkan semangat.

Minggu pertama amik SD2 berat x berubah pun tapi rasa longgar sikit pakaian.

X puas hati check kat tenet psl SD2 ..baru tau perkara2 yg blh menyebabkan berat x turun..ish3..cuba lagi tin kedua+fiber max..alhamdulillah tau2 timbang turun 4kg..lepas tu period lak.

Masa period x leh minum so watch karbo jew. alhamdullilah turun lagi 2 kilo..hik3..seronok.

Selepas 4 tin cik nolie minum..dari segi berat hanya 9kg jew turun tapi dari segi kelonggaran baju..seronok sgt2 byk baju lama dah boleh sarung.

Kemudian raya pun timbul. Risaunya maklum la open house sana sini tapi alhamdulillah dengan meminum SD2 secara berterusan walaupun cik nolie langgar pantang berat x naik..maintain je...SD2 mmg terbaek.

Sehingga saat ini berat cik nolie dah turun sebanyak 16kg. Rasa x percaya je. Badan mmg mengecik secara yg kita x sedar. Seluar jeans dulu pakai size 46 sekarang cik nolie dah boleh sarung size 40..seronokkkknyaa. Mmg x rugi cik nolie cuba SD2.

Yang paling memeranjatkan cik nolie dah join kelab aerobik dan boleh beraerobik dgn mereka yang lebih kurus selama sejam ke sejam setengah tanpa rasa sakit kat lutut dan stamina mmg menakjubkan. Alhamdulillah.

Sekarang ni cik nolie nak sharing dengan sesiapa saja yg pernah mengalami masalah obesiti dan kegemukan cam cik nolie. Walaupun cik nolie tau berat cik nolie belum kurus lagi tapi yang penting stamina dan kesihatan mmg meningkat.

ACAR MENTAH TIMUN & NENAS (JELANTAH)

Bulan pose nih syiok tul duk pikir apa nak masak tapi kadang2 tu pening jugak tambah dalam keadaan cik nolie yg tgh diet SD2 nih.  Ni tengah2 boring ni teringat lak kat acar timun nenas mentah yg sedap dimakan ngan nasi minyak/nasi jagung/nasi beriani. Nasi beriani cik nolie x penah masak..hehe..x tau kenapa..mungkin x bape suka kot. Ni ler acar mentah paling senang dalam dunia..ratah pun sodap. Bahan-bahannya:-

2 biji timun (belah 4, buang biji dan hiris nipis tapi jgn nipis sgt)
1 biji nenas muda (buang empulur dan mata dan hiris ikut suka)
3 biji bawang besar (hiris nipis2)
5-6 biji cili merah (hiris nipis2)
Gula secukup rasa
Garam secukup rasa


Cara membuatnya:-

Campurkan timun, nenas, bawang hiris dan cili hiris. GAul rata2.

Campurkan gula dan garam secukup rasa. Cik nolie biasa letak agak2 pas tu rasa..pastu biarkan dalam peti sejuk. Bila kuarkan rasa lagi..kalau kurang leh tambah gula dan garam tu..hehe.

Qn: You mentioned that Indians are three times more vulnerable. What is the reason for this, as Europeans and Americans also eat a lot of junk food?
Ans: Every race is vulnerable to some disease and unfortunately, Indians are vulnerable for the most expensive disease.


Qn: Do, in any way, low white blood cells and low hemoglobin count lead to heart problems?
Ans : No. But it is ideal to have normal hemoglobin level to increase your exercise capacity.


Qn: What are the thumb rules for a layman to take care of his heart?

Ans:
1. Diet - Less of carbohydrate, more of protein, less oil
2. Exercise - Half an hour's walk, at least five days a week; avoid lifts and avoid sitting for a longtime
3. Quit smoking
4. Control weight
5. Control blood pressure and sugar


Qn: How can one keep the heart in a good condition?
Ans : Eat a healthy diet, avoid junk food, exercise everyday, do not smoke and, go for health checkup s if you are past the age of 30 ( once in six months recommended) ..


Qn: Why is the rate of heart attacks more in men than in women?
Ans : Nature protects women till the age of 45.


Qn: Does dispirin or similar headache pills increase the risk of heart attacks?
Ans : No.


Qn: What are the modern anti- hypertensive drugs?
Ans : There are hundreds of drugs and your doctor will chose the right combination for your problem, but my suggestion is to avoid the drugs and go for natural ways of controlling blood pressure by walk, diet to
reduce weight and changing attitudes towards lifestyles.


Qn: Are people working on night shifts more vulnerable to heart disease when compared to day shift workers?
Ans : No.


Qn: What are the things one needs to take care of after a heart operation?
Ans : Diet, exercise, drugs on time , Control cholesterol, BP, weight.


Qn: Is there a relation between heart problems and blood sugar?
Ans: Yes. A strong relationship since diabetics are more vulnerable to heart attacks than non-diabetics.


Qn: Sometimes, due to the hectic schedule we are not able to exercise. So, does walking while doing daily chores at home or climbing the stairs in the house, work as a substitute for exercise?
Ans : Certainly. Avoid sitting continuously for more than half an hour and even the act of getting out of the chair and going to another chair and sitting helps a lot.


Qn: Can a person help himself during a heart attack (Because we see a lot of forwarded emails on this)?
Ans : Yes. Lie down comfortably and put an aspirin tablet of any description under the tongue and ask someone to take you to the nearest coronary care unit without any delay and do not wait for the ambulance since most of the time, the ambulance does not turn up.


Qn: Does consuming bananas help reduce hypertension?
Ans : No.


Qn: How would you define junk food?
Ans : Fried food like Kentucky , McDonalds , samosas, and even masala dosas..


Qn: Are asthma patients more prone to heart disease?
Ans : No.


Qn: Will consuming more coffee/tea lead to heart attacks?
Ans : No.


Qn: Will taking anti-hypertensive drugs cause some other complications (short / long term)?
Ans : Yes, most drugs have some side effects. However, modern anti- hypertensive drugs are extremely safe.


Qn: Many of us have an irregular daily routine and many a times we have to stay late nights in office. Does this affect our heart ? What precautions would you recommend?
Ans : When you are young, nature protects you against all these irregularities. However, as you grow older, respect the biological clock.


Qn: Marriages within close relatives can lead to heart problems for the child. Is it true?
Ans : Yes, co-sanguinity leads to congenital abnormalities and you may not have a software engineer as a child


Qn: Is it possible for a person to have BP outside the normal range of 120/80 and yet be perfectly healthy?
Ans: Yes.


Qn: What is the main cause of a steep increase in heart problems amongst youngsters? I see people of about 30-40 yrs of age having heart attacks and serious heart problems.
Ans: Increased awareness has increased incidents.. Also, sedentary lifestyles, smoking, junk food, lack of exercise in a country where people are genetically three times more vulnerable for heart attacks than Europeans and Americans.


Qn: How do you differentiate between pain caused by a heart attack and that caused due to gastric trouble?
Ans: Extremely difficult without ECG.


Qn: What are the first aid steps to be taken on a heart attack?
Ans: Help the person into a sleeping position , place an aspirin tablet under the tongue with a sorbitrate tablet if available, and rush him to a coronary care unit since the maximum casualty takes place within the first hour.


Qn: What is the routine checkup one should go through? Is there any specific test?
Ans: Routine blood test to ensure sugar, cholesterol is ok. Check BP, Treadmill test after an echo.


Qn: Which oil is better - groundnut, sunflower, olive?
Ans: All oils are bad .


Qn: Which is the best and worst food for the heart?
Ans: Fruits and vegetables are the best and the worst is oil.


Qn: Can yoga prevent heart ailments?
Ans: Yoga helps.


Qn: How can I control cholesterol content without using medicines?
Ans: Control diet, walk and eat walnut.


Qn: How do irregular eating habits affect the heart ?
Ans: You tend to eat junk food when the habits are irregular and your body's enzyme release for digestion gets confused.


Qn: Does cholesterol accumulates right from an early age
(I'm currently only 22) or do you have to worry about it only after you are above 30 years of age?

Ans: Cholesterol accumulates from childhood.


Qn: Can people with low blood pressure suffer heart diseases?
Ans: Extremely rare


Qn: You have done so much for the poor and needy. What has inspired you to do so?
Ans: Mother Theresa , who was my patient


Qn: Is walking better than jogging or is more intensive exercise required to keep a healthy heart?
Ans: Walking is better than jogging since jogging leads to early fatigue and injury to joints


Qn: Are heart diseases hereditary?
Ans: Yes


Qn: Is eating non-veg food (fish) good for the heart?
Ans: No


Qn: What are the ways in which the heart is stressed? What practices do you suggest to de-stress?
Ans: Change your attitude towards life. Do not look for perfection in everything in life.


Qn: It's still a grave shock to hear that some apparently healthy person
gets a cardiac arrest.. How do we understand it in perspective?

Ans: This is called silent attack; that is why we recommend everyone past the age of 30 to undergo routine health checkups.
